Her and her family and Annie Sullivan are the only ones who knew that for sure. If you want to get an idea of what it was like, take a day and walk around in a blindfold, put in ear plugs. That might give you some idea. It is hard to say what a persons life is like until you walk in their shoes.

She was born bright, to a well-to-do family and she had good teachers who taught her sign language and braille once she became blind. Note that she didn't become sick until age one and a half, so she was already communicating by that time. Once deaf and blind she started signing a lot with her nanny. And then she was sent to doctors for advanced training so she could read. And she was clearly innately smart.

She pretty much did everything else a normal girl did except she had to first learn how to "see" and "hear" without really seeing or hearing.

I think she was kept in the dark about many things as well as turning a deaf ear.
