My wife began suffering from constipation a few months before we got married (wich she told me this a year after we were married) She says she will go for more than a month without been able to 'go', she would get the signs of the urge to go, but when she'd sit on the throne, lol, she just cant go!. She tried various things already, and at first i thought maybe the medicines she took made her system dependant on them them to be able to clear the stuff, but it has been a long time now. She has been dealing with this for more than 2 years now. She eats all kinds of fiber rich foods and supplements and still wont do the trick naturally, she has to take the chinese slimming tea wich takes effect the next morning. But I cant understand, there is no bleeding, no loss of apetite, no unusual symptoms except for the urge to go and the frustration of not being able to push the stuff out and feeling the relief that the stuff is gone. Please help!

she needs to drink plenty of water to liquefy all that fiber. she should eat more beans and oatmeal and cucumbers and apples and prunes and raisins. if this doesn't help she has a blockage somewhere.

I have had trouble like this too in the past. I know that everyone's system is different. But the keys things are water and fibre. Has she tried drinking prune juice and eating all bran cereal? Even if she were to drink her water warmed up in the microwave for a minute or so, it aids in digestion. She should try and see her Doctor and try and get her body back to normal. Oprah had the famous Dr. Oz on today talking about all these things, you should get your wife to watch the show. Very informative info on there. Good Luck.

Does she drink lots of water. Too much fibre without water can stop you up. Stay away from fibre supplements if she is eating fibre rich foods. Stress can also play a part in this. Relax and have a drink of Brandy. Brandy helps soften up stool.

I would have her consult with a gastroenterologist who will either order a barium enema or a colonoscopy. She could have more going on like a stricture in her colon that prevents bowels from moving through in a normal fashion.

has she tried any over the counter stool softeners like Colace? one or two a day can make a big difference, and it doesn't cause diarrhea because it's not a laxative so much as it keeps things moving.
