I use a seam ripper to cut up the bottoms, just do a little and then wash them.

you let them drag a little.

if you are short, it happens sometimes. or you could get longer jeans.

they drag on the floor/ground and after a while, they become frayed at the vey bottom.

yes, i am short so my jeans tend to touch the ground. eventually, just on their own they start to get that look...

you buy jeans that are too long...so you step on them...and the get rugged
