this will take a while.. i'll just say one band.

The most influence classic rock band is, without question, Led Zeppelin. They defined rock back then, and produced a mold for rock to follow up to today. If you look at the line up, you can see it's legendary. Robert Plant's screaming vocals and wide range, Page's innovative guitar playing and fantastic producing skills, John Paul John's galloping bass lines and multi-instrumental skills, and John "Bonzo" Bonham's thunderous drumming, which actually got him thrown out of a couple clubs. Led Zeppelin went where no other band has ever gone, playing hard rock, folk, classical, blue music, as well as other styles, sometimes even in the same song! They took many risks with music, and Jimmy Page pioneered many guitar effects that are commonly used today. Led Zeppelin is simply the best band there ever was and ever will be, period.

Notable Albums:

Led Zeppelin I
Led Zeppelin IV (known as Zoso)

Notable Songs:

Stairway to Heaven
Achilles Last Stand
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Dazed and Confused
Communication Breakdown
Immigrant Song
Since I've Been Loving You
No Quarter
Kashmir
Trampled Under Foot
there are actually more noteable songs than unknown or not so great songs, but these are pretty much the best (might've forgotten one or two)

enjoy, and ROCK ON!

The Beatles, for obvious reasons - David Bowie, he did a lot to influence people like Manson, and different glam bands. "Ziggy Stardust, And The Spiders From Mars" was his most influential.- Black Sabbath for getting Metal Music off to a good start, "Paranoid" was there most popular, but you should really check out "Black Sabbath Volume 4"- Led Zeppelin with any and all of there albums, I love them all. Check out "Zeppelin 4" - Jimi Hendrix did a lot to influence the guitar world. Jimi Hendrix Experience is his best. BUY IT!!!- Also Kiss has had a huge influence on many bands and artists. The whole make up thing.- Also Metallica, lets not forget them. They made the non-Metal fan love Metal. There, I gave you 7 bands, I hope that I helped you. - Voodoo

Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zepplin
Jimi Hendrix Experience
and the most influential of all, Pink Floyd / Dark Side of the Moon; this ground breaking album set the bar so high for quality rock & roll that to this day it is still being 'discovered' by new generations of music lovers around the world. I am convinced that it was truly a 'once in a lifetime' phenomenon and will never be equaled.

1. The Beatles:
The ones who started it all. Started classic rock, basically. So did Elvis, but anyway. I myself am not a great fan of The Beatles, but I understand and agree with the reasons why they're so infuencial. I think one of their better albums is The White Album, simply because it has an amazing song on it called While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

2. Led Zeppelin:
This band has been so influencial on so many levels for bands throught the decades to present music. Jimmy Page's guitar solos have inspired so many guitarists including Eddie Van Halen. Most of the rock music today is influenced by Led Zeppelin. One of their good albums (well they're all good, let me rephrase that-) one of their GREAT albums is their debut album Led Zeppelin I. Some great songs on there are Dazed And Confused, Rock & Roll, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and Communication Breakdown. Also, another one of their great albums is Led Zeppelin II. There's a song called Heartbreaker on that album which has an incredible guitar solo done by Jimmy Page himself. That solo inspired Eddie Van Halen to invent the Eruption solo. Enough said.

3. Elvis Presley:
Ah, pretty much the creator of Rock N' Roll. Again, I'm not a fan, but I understand his influence on the music world. I'm not aware of one of his good albums, though I'm sorry to say.

4. Black Sabbath:
Gods of heavy metal, man. Without them I don't know what I'd been listening to right now. Their music style has influenced allllllllll the metal bands today. One of their great albums is Paranoid, which has both Iron Man, Paranoid and War Pigs on it.

5. Rolling Stones:
I can't get no....satissssfactiooooon. Once again, not a big fan, but they are influencial. One of the earlier classic rock bands, which have influenced the 80's rock n' roll, 90's, etc. Again, I'm not sure of a good album by theirs, but some good songs are Paint It Black and Satisfaction.

1) Beatles. Album: Revolver. Song: Tomorrow Never Knows. Reason: They were initially overlooked for a record deal because "Guitar driven music was on the way out."
2) Rolling Stones. Album: Excile On Main Street. Song: Miss You. Reason: They were at the top of their game for 20 years.
3) Led Zeppelin. Album: (untitled). Song: Stairway To Heaven. Reason: Mystique.
4) Pink Floyd. Album: Dark Side of the Moon. Song: See Emily Play. Reason: Kings of Swinging London, Survivers of Leading Member.
5) The Who. Album: Tommy. Song: Baba O'Reilly. Reason: Writers of the anthem of the 60's, early dominance of the synthesizer.
