Having a boyfriend is fine at any age. It's what responsibilities a person is ready for is the real issue. A 13 year old boy or girl is not ready for a relationship. I don't care how mature they think they are, I was 13 once too and at 23 years old I question my readiness on the same subject, So yes it is ok for a 13 year old to have a boyfriend, as long as it's friendship without the hassle of "grown up" responsibilities. Oh to be 13 again....

Depends what the 13 year old considers a boyfriend. Where I went to school a "boyfriend" at 13 was someone you kissed and held hands with, while at the school 15 minutes away, a "boyfriend" was someone you went all the way with.

Talk to her about her ideas on relationships and sex before letting her jump in cold turkey.

yes, definitely...13 is around the age where they can start having real relationships, a lot of maturing goes on between 13 and 14

Having a boyfriend in itself is harmless. It's what follows that causes concern. Teens of this age are not mature enough to fully understand and take responsibility for the consequences of impulsive decisions. As a result, there should be a limit as to what is acceptable behavior. It is up to the parent to decide what is acceptable and what is not.

At 13, I believe it would be ok for your parents to take you to a class party or movie and drop you. Then pick you up again afterwards. You should be 16 before you start dating. Until there you can dream - it's more fun anyway.

A 13 year old boy? NO

A 13 year old girl? I suppose it's okay, provided they both are kept in check as far as acts of affection are concerned.

Yeah, and maybe we should let all 13 y/o drive, and skip school, I mean, really, why go at all?? Maybe we should let them chose whether they can have sex, or if they like older men, or if they want to stay up all night, maybe we should let them walk all over us too!!

This depends on the 13 year old. If he/she is trustful, respectful, and is responsible enough I think it would be fine. But if they start changing or it is the way their "friend" acts, I would disaproove
