The ref always takes the stick and the linesmen get away with it.
They are often closer to the incident than the referee.
What do you think?

Please bear in mind that, when it comes to offside, linesman are supposed to be looking at two different places at once.

They have to know the exact moment the ball was passed and exactly where the player passed to was standing.

That's not an easy thing to do, especially when you consider the pace of the game, crowd noise, players blocking their line of sight, and all the pressure that comes with high-profile games.

This is a good question, maybe someone reading it can also answer this, referees are now professional on about 1000 pounds a match, are the linesmen full-time,certainly refereeing has improved over the last few years, linesmen have stood still.

Good question! Yes linos are sometimes very, very wrong but I have found that quite often they will not even raise their flags for a decision until they receive the sly finger or hand indication from the referee. It is quite refreshing sometimes to actually see a linesman stand his ground and get the referee to consult with him/her and get the decision reversed. However, I would also like to know if the linesmen are assessed by the referee!!!

the linesmen are quite awful! More irritating than the refs. In the last few months i've seen some of the worst offside decisions ever!

I was at the Peterborough-Plymouth Argyle FA Cup game staurday. Argyle was given a penalty shot in the second half. Oh, I was pulling for the Posh. The penalty call was a good one. I have no argument with that. The Posh goalie made a beautiful save on the shot. The crowd went wild. Well, the linesman said the goalie came off his line so Argyle was given another chance. They made this one. I was sitting almost even with the goalie. He did NOT come off his line. The call should have been an Argyle corner and no goal. The Posh did equalise a few minutes later but they really should have won if not for that totally disgraceful call by the incompetent linesman.

Yeah, heard that they are inventing a machine that would replace the linesmen, in Germany.

well, lineman got to keep up with the flow of the game running up and down and i believe with modern pace , they probaly have difficulty catching up. To me some just raise the flag for the sake of raising through assumption, of course there is close call but hey that the game, anyway refs can overwrite linesman.

It is actually the refs! They're the ones who are bought so one team wins! The rest of the team that buys the ref are just divers!

Many people disagree with the officials, but it's up to them unless the coach challenges it (and wins).
