the front hood was shut and we left back home... missing pair was realised only after we reached the house...opened the hood, but was missing... any chance it could have got sucked somewhere and will cause damage? say entangled in a fan or sth?

Well if a pair of shorts got caught on a belt or on the fan you would've heard it. It probably just fell off.
Don't worry, a friend of mine once started his car and a cat had crawled into the motor (because of the heat). No damage was done to the motor but the poor cat didn't make it.

No worries. It's probably on the road somewhere. Any damage that it might have caused (from geting tangled in the fan belt or falling on the exhaust and catching on fire) it already would have.

If you're still feeling paranoid you can check under the car around the brake disks and drive shaft(s) to see if it got tangled up there, but I really, really doubt it.
