Why pay? You can "roll ya own" internet security suite for free using some great free and legal software.
1. For your Anti-Virus.........................
I like the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.
Updates many times per day to detect new malware.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?
2. For your Firewall......................
An excellent free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It can pass firewall "leak tests" that even most of the "paid-for" firewalls cannot pass.
And Comodo has a great support forum. Where the CEO / President of the company might even himself answer your question! Check it out at:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
3. For your Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs...............
Pick and choose, 2 anti-spywares from the list below and alternate scanning with them on a regular basis. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free. All can remove as well as detect.
Spybot Search and Destroy:

Ewido:

Adaware SE:

A-Squared:

SUPERAntiSpyware:

Windows Defender:

Unfortunately, many "paid for" anti-spyware products are in fact either of limited usefulness or downright scams. When in doubt, look at the list of rogue anti-spyware solutions listed here:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
4. And to protect your computer from ever getting infected with spyware in the first place...................
SpywareBlaster:

SiteAdvisor:

Everything here is 100% free!!!!!!
Great luck.

Best Browser: Mozilla Firefox (Free). Blocks spyware and pop ups. Far more secure than IE 7.
Best Fire Wall: Zone Alarm (Free). Blocks hacks.
Best free spyware remover: Ad-Aware SE from Lavasoft.
Best free anti-virus: Avast. Only requirement is free yearly registrations.
Beware of a lot of so-called free stuff. They search your computer and find gads of bad stuff and tell you that you must pay for the upgraded version that will eradicate the bad stuff. Only problem is that the bad stuff they say is on your computer is greatly exaggerated. Greatly exaggerated. Buyer beware. Everything I have recommended, I use.

I like Xoftspy for anti-spyware protection. It got my computer nice and clean when I got infected with AntiVermins last week. It even found things I didn't know I had and removed them all quite easily. My computer is much happier now.

Well, this is actually something which is different for each individual. We all have our own personal favorite, but for me I use Panda Internet Security and have these past three years. Now each purchase is good for installation on up to three computers, instead of having to buy it seperate for each one, which is great for me as I have multiple computers which need protection. Well, every computer needs protection if it is hooked up to the internet.
Now, Panda is great for a number of reasons. First, it is a fully featured suite with everything needed in one program to keep my systems fully protected. Since changing to Panda I have not had a single infestation of anything larger than invasive cookies, which Panda easily rids my systems of. Panda has caught all other highter forms of malware, all malicious code which has tried to install onto my system. Panda deals with Viruses, has a supior Firewall, has an WiFi intrusion detector, detects Spam, Dialers, Jokers, Phishing, Hackers, Trojans, Worms, Keyloggers, and all forms of malicious code. It has options for safe guarding my private information, a settng against allowing scripts or batch jobs to run unless a intentionally give permission for these to run and then once I am finished it automatically resets that setting so a user does not mistakenly leave it open. It has extensive reporting capabilities, with advanced statistics on all malware over a period of time, or on any given day at a click of a mouse button. It gives me the ability to report suspicious files to the Panda Labs, which will anylyze it and return results in one to two days letting me know if it is malicious or not. It has a hueristic scan which is a continuious scan for odd system behavior and catches unknown threats before a signature is out to combat it, protecting my system even more throughly. I can update automatically, or manually, it is my choice, which of course I chose auto updating as it is one less chore for me to do in maintainance. It does a scan at startup and on demand, and I can schedudel scans to run automatically any time I want and to scan any item I wish, it scans my e-mail automatically and also allows me to scan any and every downloaded file or attachment as I see fit, which I do for every single one, even those which have already been scanned by my web based e-mails virus scans the e-mail provider has added and configured for that mail account. It updates daily which is vital in these days of risk, and you would be surprised on a few of the well known manufacturers which update weekly or even worse monthly (Norton). Also, with my purchase of the Panda Platinum I get free 24/7 technical support for as long as my subscription is paid for and up to date. Which is far more than many of the paid versions offer. I am very pleased with Panda!
Now, some people want to have consumers believe multiple solutions are needed to truly protect systems, that just one solution is not adequent to the job these days. I beg to differ, and do so trenuously. My Panda Suite is fully up to todays challenges and I sleep in peace knowing I am well protected.
If you are interested go here to check it out:

click on products and read up on them. Panda also has a free trial which you can run from your browser, but it is basically a sales technique to get people to buy, but there is nothing wrong with that. Oh, one last item, but important: Panda has a malware encyclopedia of every known form of malware out with an easy look up feature.
