I all depends on your style and what you like. I use for my electric DR brand "Pure Blues" 10 - 46 gauge. I'm a rock/worship player. If your play a little harder music, you may want to go up to 11's. Ernie Ball is not bad at all either, and they are cheaper. If you are a classic rock player use 9-42's to start. Knowing that when you change gauge, you will probally have to have your neck set again. Then tension change may change the neck relief. I hope this gives you a starting place. Good luck and happy playing!

You can't go wrong with either Dean Markley or Fender light gauge. They're light enough to bend and "heavy" enough to give good tone.
