It was a small secondhand book shop. A healthy fascination for Eastern philosophy is found in the West. Was the shopkeeper commenting on the value of the book? She wouldn't have been saying geeky, would she have?

It may be trendy! Since the late 90's new age books like Taoist mysticism is a trendy fascination. She probably didn't mean anything about it other than that she's probably noticed that books like that are selling better at this point.

Nothing mystical about the Tao. "Trendy" is for Starbucks-slurping yuppies who want to appear hip.

Live for the moment. Forget the clerk and read Lao-tze's "Tao Teh King".
