What do you think of Sharia Law in Britain?

I was reading in the Washington Post today that law makers in Britain were seriously considering it. That is, they might allow it to be the rule of law for British Muslims. Everyone else will be ruled by "common law" but the muslims will have a different set of laws.

What do you think of that. Frankly, it scares me just to think of it, but I dont live there, so I guess its not my problem. What say you?

I've checked my calendar and it's not April Fools Day, but that sounds like a hoax article.

I have never ever heard that anyone is seriously advocating that Sharia law could be introduced here in the UK, although no doubt some of the extremist elements of the Muslim community desire it. Such people are not representative of the views of the vast majority of Muslims however. Even if they were, it is difficult to see how the wider population would allow one law for one group vs another law for the majority.

I will check the net to see what sources the Washington Post is quoting but I very much doubt they are ones that are representative or influential in terms of our political agenda.

There is as much chance of Sharia law being enshrined in UK as there is in the US. It's just scaremongering.

If allowed to happen legally it will lead to the re- tribalisation of Britain.
The increasing moves through stealth to reginalisation, to meet the EU superstate demands, will almost certainly increase the possability of it happening within the next 20 years.

At present I am not aware of any official plan. Only media stories that it is increasingly being operated in areas of heavy muslim population. The story I read in the Daily Mail related to a group of Somalies (in London if I recall correctly) who were using their old tribal customs to settle local disputes between themselves.

This only becomes a problem when the dispute involves activity that contravenes the law of the land. If you were to apply it as someone stealing his neighbours bike and being forced to return it and it never gets to the police, is that any different than might happen in your own street?
The real problem is the lack of integration and assimilation that leads to the assumption,by some, and the manipulation by others that British law/society is inadequte to meet the needs of new people. Then they wish to create their own community to solve what they see as an 'internal' problem.
This is fostered by a false belief that multi-culturalism is about tolerance. The political elite think that if you raise a cookoo in captivity it wont kick out the other host chicks, a big gamble, which if it continues to fail as it is currently will end in blood shed like the war of the roses we read about in our History books.

I live here and at then end of the day its not going to affect me really because at the end of the day yes Muslims may be bound by the Sharia law but the Common Law is the law of our land so the Sharia Law would only affect say two muslims . So it shouldnt have any affect on anyone else or any cases relating to them

I think they can get screwed. I'm as liberal as they come but that is too much. ONE LAW - ONE PEOPLE. If Muslims can have their own law then I want MY own law. It's in my religion that I just made up that everyone has to give me £100 or be executed. Anyone who doesn't like my law - well that's just tough luck isn't it?

Also - what if the defendant is Muslim and the prosecutor is not? What happens then? This seriously has not been thought through. Assuming of course that it's a genuine article - and not some rubbish made up to scare people - which it probably is.

And the Nazis will be allowed to rule Europe. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, one law for part of the community and another for the rest. This would mean Muslims moving to non Muslim areas to escape these rules and anyway how would the legal system work as we would still require the English/British legal system to work it. No if Muslims want Sharia law then they should go to Saudi Arabia.

It would be unworkable. There would not be enough parliamentary time for the changes to be made. Each law has to go through parliament individually.

The EU would object because of the abuses of human rights that sharia law allows.

As I am not a muslim, I think those who wish to live under such a system should go to live somewhere where this is used.

I dont think its possible , it would mean a whole new set of laws and then u have to take into account mixed race families , like someone else said too many grey areas ...

would be like appointing the british legal system in the middle east ... bizarre !

Hey I agree with the bloke who says we r loosing our minds. Im from the Uk and hate it here. Im a white christian girl who works my backside off with a cleaning job, looking after old people in their own homes and starting up a business to get out of this **** hole to go to Australia. Why is it this country is all about the muslims and what they want they get on my nerves so much its untrue the way the government is working this mess is making people begin to hate them why are they up on this pedistale?? they dont make the same rules for indians, jews christians and the whole thing 'other people' the generalisation of other races and belives is seconded to the muslims. I say to you americans nuke us all here I would give my life up gladly than see this country become a muslim state and the feeling among alot of people is the same.

As for this law...it was muted a while ago.
Tony B-liar said there is no chance of it ever happening.
He also said that he would not negotiate away our rebate from Europe, on that he did not lie, HE GAVE IT AWAY.

So the law should be here anytime soon.
