I got a coffeemaker for Christmas and today was my first day using it. Now I'm wondering how often it needs to be cleaned? I've already rinsed out the coffeepot part, but should I put it through the dishwasher too? Does the rest of the machine, like the permanent filter and everything need to be cleaned daily too or just sometimes?

I do my cleaning of my coffee maker every day. I clean the inserted filter, I clean the surroundings off from spills. And once a month, I let it run through with hot water and a mixture of white vinegar.

I also use soap and a sponge and clean the inside of the holder where the coffee drips into. Sometimes I pour some lime juice in the glass container that comes with the coffee maker. Just to prevent disturbing smells and odors.

Angelikab has given you a good answer. For me, however, I put the Coffee pot upside down in the top of the dishwasher every 3 or 4 days, and just rinse it the other days. My filters are paper, but I also put the filter-holder upside down in the top of the dishwasher. In addition, once--a-month, I fill it with white vinegar and run it through (without the paper filter), then rinse it and run water through it three times. Of course, how often you use vinegar would depend on your own preference. Do it once every two weeks if you use the pot every day. I am not anal about it. It does not grow mold and the flavor is just great.

I wipe the exterior of my coffeemaker every day that I use it with warm sudsy water and rinse it. I then wash the carafe after every use.

Once a month with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water (about two cups). With the carafe in place, run the machine for half a cycle, then switch it off. After an hour, turn the coffee maker back on and finish the cycle. Rinse by running several cycles with fresh water.

I run vinegar and water through mine once a month too. Everyday just gets a soap and water wash and good rinse.
