You can expect a typical timing belt replacement to cost $480 - more if the belt has broken and damaged your engine.

When you contact your mechanic or Honda Dealer to get an estimate - you need to give the year, make and model of your honda. They will ask for the engine size 1.5 L and other info.

The timing belt should be replaced on your Honda Civic as part of a regular maintenance schedule every 60,000 miles to prevent damaging the engine should the belt break.

The water pump is typically replaced at the same time because it is driven by the timing belt - it is standard procedure to replace it.

I have a 1998 honda odyssey 2.3 motor and I just had the timing belt, balance belt, waterpump, and oil seals replaced last week cost was $622.00 at a honda dealer using honda parts. The parts alone were $180.00. The old stuff had 120k on them and I wanted to keep the car a couple more years.

Honda's are interference fit engines, if you waited until the timing belt broke, odds are you've got bent valves too. Cost to repair will be between $1500-$2000.

If you're simply replacing the timing belt before it breaks, should be under $300.

Which is why it's cheaper to maintain than it is to repair.

Depends on whther you go to the dealer (or as I call them $tealer) or not.

Get a quote from your dealer, and it should run you about 50% of that elsewhere.

I'm guessing based on my experience with other cars: The dealer will say $600-$1000, an independent will say $300-$500.
