First as it slowed down to reverse direction days would not be 24 hours and if it slowed to abruptly then earthquake style cracks would appear on the earth.

After it started in the opposite direction the sun would rise in the west and set in the east and a lot of home owners who love the morning sun coming into their east-facing kitchens would be really pissed.

Let's just say that it did: the earth rotated in the reverse direction around its axis compared to what it does now. The sun would appear to rise in the West and set in the East. The earth's movement around the sun would be in the opposite direction, thus, in any given calendar year starting in January and ending in December, rather than the seasons going from winter to spring to summer and fall and then back to winter it would be winter, fall, summer and spring before winter again...

However, since it didn't and the likely hood of it happening is nil, there's no reason to bother thinking much about it.

All life on Earth would cease to exist. The water would be thrown off and so would the atmosphere. You see, it would require the world to stop spinning for a short time while it started spinning the other way. In the slow down, stop and restart in the other direction, everything would die.

Without a spinning core, there is no gravity. No gravity means complete chaos.

Contrary to what Red_F said, there would be gravity. Gravity comes from a large collection of mass which creates the weak nuclear force. It has never been speculated what would happen if the world just stopped spinning. Maybe the strength of Earth's gravity would overpower the sudden cease of motion.. Maybe we would be thrown into space.. There really is no definite answer to your question, only opinions.

Instead of night following day, day would follow night. The sun would set in the east and rise in the west.
