I am a patriotic American and would love it even if it was no more powerful than Germany today...does it really matter as long as we can live decent and our children are safe...what is wrong with being part of a wider world community and protecting each other (such as NATO), living a little smaller and maybe do a little fishing.

I value lives, why shouldn't we enjoy life, live smaller and worry less about controlling the world...it would be nice to go fishing with my grandkids in 20 years and believe we are safe.

The hardest part would be to live "smaller" and appreciate everything we have

I just found your question. Dont know why anyone would give you the thumbs down.! I agree with what you said if no one else does. As long as our children and grandchildren have a home that is free. We are in the US too spend thrifty( using this line broadly) and i dont see anything wrong with us doing more to help ourselves as in gardening and as you said fishing. We have become too soft as in letting our gov. help us when the times are down. Ok will quit preaching but i got your point .. Thanks for the question.May me realize something.

Bravo! I feel we should get back to what we were circa 1895-1900. We were strong enough to defend ourselves from everyone but at the same time we didn't bother anyone unless they directly attacked or p*ssed us off. George Washington was right when he said to stay out of the world's affairs in his Farewell Address!! What has being the World's Policeman brought us? My only disagreement is that I think we should be like the Swiss and not be a part of any organization. Let Europe defend itself. Tell the people of the Middle East to get their heads out of their rectum and talk to each other. In short leave us alone!!!

I really dont think that it is. As you said we do live in a global world. I would actually like to see us with less power. It would make the lives of the people at home better if we spent less on having a huge and state of the art military and more on science technology in the medical and robotic area.

There are religions and groups in the world that truly believe we are demonic and should all die. The war we are fighting right now is for our own existence. If we let our power slip, we lose. The murderers of 9/11 are heroes in their group and others will try to top them. If you believe we are right then support our efforts to make the world a safer and more democratic one with tolerance and freedom for all who consider themselves brothers of ALL of human kind.

When a country loses it reputation among other
nations because of a war, it is hard to earn their
respect.
Yes, we have to defend ourselves against unforeseen danger.
We need to make sure that information, evidence or documents that supposedly derive from
"erroneous" investigations are factual and not
the fabrication of so called politicians who attack
others based on race, religion, or physical characteristics.

I agree, the milittary should really be for just the "common defense" of the union and nothing more.

In places like the middle east you must exhude power and flex your power in order to be safe. As power is the only thing they respect, even above human lives.
