Hi, I was wonder what gov't legislation could improve to lower the healthcare expenses for those who are self-employed.

I have a friend who pays $2,000 each month (he works as a garden specialist)

I was able to find a great policy through blue cross/blue shield which I only pay 83.00/month for. I get 4 doctor visits, 2 OBGYN visits, and 2 physical exams, plus 10.00 generic meds, and 2 dentist visits per year before I have to start using my 5000 deductible. If your friends does not frequent the doctor, and has no existing condition, have him look into the tonix plans with BCBS. Hope this helps!

Wow-that's a huge chunk of change.

Many of the insurance companies (such as Blue Cross/Anthem, and United Health Care) are beginning to offer more competitive rates-have your friend shop around and compare rates.

I don't think that the government will be addressing this issue anytime soon. However, you can find lots of good information at www.covertheuninsured.org

Perhaps your friend should shop around for other insurance. The Camber of Commerce will often arrange health insurance for self employed individuals at group rates.
