Its a shame the Dems only have 2 years to screw up the economy enough to be booted out of office. I have a feeling we wont see the effects of their mistakes for at least 4 years.

They won't have that chance, because single-payer universal health care is not socialized medicine.

The doctors won't work for the govt, nor will the facilities or equipment be owned by the govt.

Get a dictionary and look up each word before you type it.

Actually, the economy was doing better overall under Clinton. The U.S. had a budget surplus and the country was a world leader economically.

Now, thanks to the Republicans, we're borrowing money from Communist China. How does that feel, conservative? Borrowing money from the Communists because we can't pay our own bills.

Aside from doing business with Communists, the conservatives have done many other things to undermine this country. The "moral crisis", for example, is a direct result of the hypocrisy of conservatives who tout "family values" while engaging in behavior that clearly shows they have no respect for the family as an institution.

Healthcare is also a mess, because the conservatives have allowed their friends, the CEO's of the pharmaceutical companies, to fix prices. If you don't think they're fixed, note how much the price drops when a drug becomes available as a generic. Part of the price-fixing scheme is to prevent drugs from going generic by renewing patents for the name brand stuff. The good ol'boys in the Republican network keep those patents churning so their friends can make a lot of money.

The price of fuel has been allowed to artificially inflate, thus lining the pockets of the Republican's friends, the CEO's of the oil companies - which make obscene profits and channel none of that money into research for alternative fuels.

Its a shame that the Reps have had 6 years to screw up the economy enough to be booted out of office. Whether or not the Dems can repair that damage in two years will be a miracle.

Such messes created by incompetent conservative politicians are very difficult to clean up. We'll all be lucky if they can.

As far as socialized medicine is concerned, the voting for that would take place in Congress, and a conservative president can always veto it. The dems have a majority, yes, but not enough to override a veto.

I wouldn't worry about it. A tyrant in that position is virtually invulnerable. If Hitler were alive, he'd back me up on that point.

No-look at what happened with the expansion of Medicare 2 years ago.

I don't think that they have enough political power to drastically affect the economy. That might change if they were to control both houses of congress and the White House after the 2008 election.

Majority of Americans want some kind of nationalized health care or as the Republicans think tanks call socialized health care. I think we can watch and learn from other countries problems with nationalized health care and do better then them because we are American right? Sure would be bring a smile to a big hearted small businessperson`s face who wants to give health care to their employees but can`t afford it maybe employers will have alittle more money to do some real trickle down economics .

Not at all, the pits is dying of a heart attack because you are between jobs and you can't afford to go to the ER because the charge is so high, and after all, it might just be indigestion. It wasn't and hes dead. Thats worse, and true. You are right when you say its only two years, and they can't screw up the economy that fast, but the Republicans have left an awful cut now and pay later mess, that they will have to cover. At least we won't have to wait two years, China owns us now.

I'm a moderate and I don't like the whole "healthcare" for everybody. It sounds very Marxist to me and I'm against the war but I hope that the Democrats changed their platform by 2008.
