It's called "selective hearing". All married men suffer from it.

Which ear is it? My father in law is deaf in one ear and coincidentally enough (or not) it is the ear next to his wife in the car. She is very negative, always complaining about something. I think he has been tuning her out for years and his body is accomodating him by losing the hearing in the ear nearest her usually.

Left if female and right is male, usually (but the wife sits in the passenger seat in the car and never drives). I would say if he has a hearing loss there is someone or something he does not want to hear. Louise Hay suggests the following affirmation "i rejoice at all that I hear" and you might think of some that are more specific to your situation. Maybe it is his boss or father or kids or anyone that he doesn't want to hear.

If it would be some kind of infection you could have him lay with the ear full of Colloidal silver for a full 6 minutes to kill whatever might cause it.

If the ear is clogged you might feel a hardness in the little hollow just behind the lobe. If it is hard, maybe rub some peppermint oil mixed with a moisturizer on that spot or even liquid lobelia to loosen and get energy to the ear.

You might also consider putting some phone books under his feet in bed so that as he sleeps more blood gets to his head. The extra energy and blood flow might do wonders.

If he uses a cell phone, you might want to get one of those EMF neutralizers - that might have something to do with it. Here's where I get mine: http://www.mybiopro.com/Products.aspx?ID=carolecherry

Peace!

Is this a serious question or are you joking? If you're serious, go to the doctor! If you don't have insurance go to the clinic.
