I accidentally left a cup of coffee on my counter when i left for vacation, and when I came back there were fruit flies all over the place. Does anyone know of a good way to get rid of them? I hate the way fly paper looks, so I'd rather not have to put any up.

Put a banana peel or a little bit of red wine in a glass jar. Fold a piece of paper into a funnel shape with an opening about the diameter of a pencil. The wide end of the funnel should be a little bigger than the mouth of the jar. Tape the funnel on the mouth of the jar with the point of the funnel down inside the jar. Fruit flies can find their way in, but practically none of them come back out. I've done this on several occasions and had good luck.

They breed and adapt to pesticides pretty quickly so you could wind up just chasing your tail so to speak. I know you said the house is clean, but double check some things. They like ANYthing sweet not just fruit. So make sure everything is wiped down, no choc. syrup or any other sugary substance out or spilled anywhere. Floor mopped trash emptied. garbage disposal clean. After all that try this. Cover the kitchen drain with plastic wrap so it isn't an option for them and trap them somewhere else. Take a Large glass and put some apple cider vinegar in the bottom then make a funnel out of paper to place inside the glass make sure there is a small hole at the bottom of the cone(funnel) and then tape around the top so it makes a seal The flies will be extremely attracted to the vinegar and unable to get out because of the cone. They just aren't that smart I guess but this works. Good luck they are such pains.

Fruit flies die in a couple days, but will lay eggs and the next generation will continue the plague...so eliminate any places to lay eggs. This includes fruit (especially bananas and soft-skinned fruits, like peaches) or any other foods left out unwrapped. Also potted plants (both the plant and soil can harbor eggs) and any standing liquids. If you have a humidifier, make sure it is not set so high as to make woodwork susceptible.

I usually light incense and after that I don't see them any longer. I'm no sure if that will work for you at work though.

Their life is very short and should die on their own if they do not lay eggs and re hatch
