Very common and not to worry. I just took my 14 yr. old to the doctor for her 8th week being on her period and still they say thats in the normal scope for teens who's hormones are still out of whack.

Many girls and women have irregular periods. It is quite common. I did not have regular periods until I began taking birth control bills when I got married at 18 (that was nearly 30 years ago - I don't recommend getting married young, it worked for us, but it is hard work). When I was pregnant and nursing my children I did not have periods. After my 3rd child was weaned at 11 months I began taking birth control pills again and had regular periods again. However, after 11 years on the Pill, I conceived again when my kids were 17, 15, and 12!! After our little surprise baby was born, my husband had a vasectomy. I haven't had regular periods since then. I am now 48 and in the midst of pre-menopause and I am really irregular now. Some women are regular, but most of the women I know are not. If you have a mom, a friend's mom or another adult woman relative or close friend to talk to, that would be helpful for you. You may want to see a doctor to be checked, especially with a thyroid issue, just to see if there is a medical reason why you have not had a period for a long time. I believe that thyroid problems may affect menstrual cycles.

I'm almost 25 and my period still isn't regular... so I was put on birth control pills to help regulate me and help with my cysts as well. I would go a full summer without having a period when I wasn't on the pill! And when I had periods, they were extremely painful... but again, the birth control pill has helped with the pain as well. So if it doesn't become regular within the next few yrs, yours might be irregular as well.

Let me tell you something...I am 24, pregnant with my second child, and never have had a regular period. I have had every test done...from MRIs to hormone levels to cancer screenings. I guess that I will never be regular, and I don't know why, either. You should talk to your doctor, and they will probably run test... better safe than sorry...but it could be nothing. My sister and I are both like that. Good luck to you.

don't worry about it. i'm in 12th grade, and have had mine since 8th and i'm still irregular. i can go for months at a time without having it. if you're really all that worried about it, talk to your mom about going on the pill, but explain to her that you want it to make your period regular (the pill will regulate it) and make that clear, or else your mom might flip out at you

My sister was the same way and when she did get them they would be so painfull (vomitimg, really bad cramp and sweating none stop) she ended up have to go on the pill. It helped a lot. Also your age has a lot to do with it. Talk to your mom or dad and have them set up a Gyno appt asap. I know it might be embarrasing but you need to be checked.
