craigslist is a good resourse, or try driving around and looking for 'apartment for rent' signs. Thats how I found mine. Those seem to be more common around college campuses. Also check local newspapers- those usually have a section for 'for rent'

http://local.yahoo.com look up apartments in your area. And like she said above, no more than 40% of your income to an apartment. Also get both of you on the lease so neither one of you can get screwed by the other one when it comes to rent. Look at area, if its gated, also what amenities are available: pool, etc... But most importantly, think about what you two can REALLY afford. Sometimes staying with your parents until you can REALLY afford to be 100% out on your own is the better option. Unless your folks are total *******, then I can understand. But think about these other bills too. Electricity, Gas, Sewage, Water, Garbage, Phone, Cable or Satellite maybe even Internet.... Also ask about what utilities are paid for by them, if any, or if they come with a fridge, dishwasher, washer and dryer on premises, or have them in your place. Also dont forget about furniture: table and chairs, sofa, TV and a TV stand. As far as dishes and utensils go, do it cheap. Hit up a thrift stores and look for whole sets for like 5$ to $10. Hell while yer there, grab a dining set, you know you could probably get away with blowing less than 200$ and getting almost evertything you need, except for a couch at a thrift store.

FIrst of all, find a place that has rent that you can easily afford. You probably don't want to spend more than 40% of your income on rent. Secondly, remember that starting up a house costs mad money! You need furnature, kitchen supplies, etc etc etc. Thirdly, remember that you still have to pay bills. Cable, phone and internet will set you back about $80, and if you have to pay heat, water, etc ask the landlord for the average costs of each bill.
My best suggestion is to look at your money and make a budget. See if you can follow it. See if you can get anything from second hand stores, etc.
Another suggestion is to throw a cheap housewarming party. It is a great way to get odds and ends that you will need in the future!
Things you will probably forget to buy and will need: cleaning supplies, spices, garbage cans, hangers, at least one clock.
