In my opinion, neither sex is "more likely" to cheat than the other. Men and women cheat for the same reasons, and different reasons. Honestly, I know more women that cheat then I do men, but I say it's about equal. To me when anyone cheats it's because either something is missing and they are doing it to fill a void, or because they are not happy in the relationship. Of course you do have the people that just like the "thrill" of something new (i.e. strange) but in any case, it is not okay. Most people just don't either have enough balls (for lack of a better term) to address the problem(s) or to walk away. To cheat on someone is selfish, and sooner or later they will find out.

What I tell all of my friends (if they are a man OR a woman) is that if you are with someone that is cheating on their current partner, what makes you think they will not do the exact same thing to you? If you are at the point where you are thinking of cheating, maybe it's time to break off the relationship so you are free to do what you want without putting someone else's feelings/heart/emotions in jeopardy.

Just my thoughts...............................

In these days I would say it is 50/50. In the past I feel more men cheated because it is has always been the man that would go out to work and the woman stayed home. Now days both men and women are out working which gives more women time to meet new male friends then in the past. In the past most women only went out with their husbands, they did the shopping together attended church together now days women are venturing out the door and finding new ways of life.

Both are equally as likely. Unfortunately as a married women myself. I found though I know more women that I know who have then men. I think men just get the bum rap for it.

However reasons for cheating are different. For example, Women are likely to cheat for lack of feeling romance, or appreciated or attractive still. Women want to feel cherished. Men are more likely to cheat when they are not getting it at home, or when they are being accused of cheating and they are not. Now these are not cookie cutter reasons or representative tothe whole population, but these are some of the reasons people I know have said as to why.

Not sure, but it's easier for most women to find somebody to cheat with if they have low standards--10 minute drive to the local bar.

BTW, anybody saying there are "reasons" people cheat is overlooking one character trait you'd hope to have in a partner: integrity. If "something is missing", then you work it out or you breakup and move on. If you have integrity, you don't cheat. Period.

Men are usually more likely. I was presented a few years ago with a biological theory as to why men tend to cheat more than women.

Men have an unlimited ability to procreate. They don't reach an age at which they can no longer produce children, though it does get more difficult with age, of course. Men want to procreate in quantity (not literally), but can produce more children in a lifetime than can women.
Women are much more limited in their ability to procreate. Before their menarche (first cycle), they cannot bear children, they can only conceive during a certain time each month and after menopause, they can no longer bear children. Women want to procreate in quality, as in, they want and need one steady partner to procreate with in order to increase their chances.

Keep in mind, this is mostly theory.

Studies have shown that men are more likely to cheat than women, but just barely.

In a 2005 survey of infidelity done by Playboy Magazine men and women listed their reasons as this (some listed multiple reasons, therefore they answers total more than 100%):

Men:

50% said they do it for the excitement of it.
42% for variety
37% for emotional needs
36% for spontaneity

Women:

57% for emotional needs
48% for reassurance of desirability
40% for companionship
39% for excitement

Men are the ones that are more likely to cheat. They have nothing to lose and they don't think about it twice. Women kind of think about it more.

I would say 50/50 in this day and age. You both have the same opportunities, unless you are a stay home mom.
