Teething is tough. There is sooo much pressure on his gums and also the itching and irritation. Keep lots of popsicles on hand. Buy orajel or rub a little brandy on his gums (old school). Also put a clean wash cloth in ice water and squeeze it out and give it to him. You will be amazed at how he will bite and pull the wash cloth in and out of his mouth. This will also rub his gums and soothe him a bit. Keep tons of infant tylenol and infant motrin for the swelling and pain relief. Sorry there isn't a quick fix but just hang tuff mom. Alsom be aware that the pressure on the gums can sometimes cause ear infections.

Everytime he cuts a tooth he will have some symptoms. Sometimes less or more than others. Frozen treats to rub on his gums help alot. Childrens' Advil helps. Make sure the treats don't break off in his mouth and he/she swallows them.

I found just the right amount of patience and a little bit of distraction helped too. I would play a game that I new the baby liked (after medicating of course). If I knew that in the middle of the night was going to be a problem I would give the child a dose before bed time also.

Its a tough time but it does get better.

Good luck!

Like everyone else has said...the symptoms will come and go with each tooth but it probably will get better as you go. I used Motrin for my son and tried the teething tablets, but he didn't want them. So I chilled watermelon and let him naw on that. You can also get a teething ring or put a wet wash cloth in the fridge for an hour and give him that to chew on. I also peeled an apple and let him bite into it...you have to be careful though b/c you don't them biting off large chunks(which they can't b/c they don't have teeth:) but all the same, sit with him if you do the apple thing...my son LOVED it. Good luck!

Get him the baby teething tablets.Walmart carries them and thier made for babies. THey dissolve in their mouth and give them relief from the pain. Or try BABY origel just dont use it too much. Sometimes even letting them chew or suck on a teething toy or a cold clean wash cloth might help. But no the symptoms wont stop after the first tooth they will happen with each tooth that comes in.

It is different with every baby so you can't time when the symptoms will end. Generally the worst of them end after first few teeth. Then you will have sligth pain with each new tooth that comes in, but not as bad as the first. And you can help by making him chew on stuff, a cold washcloth is a great one, I have passed that on to many mothers of teething babies and they applaud it too. Anything safe for a baby to gnaw on and cold, you have to help the teeth break through to stop the pain.

My little girl was getting the teething symptoms for a month before her first tooth came through and then 2 days later the second one came through. I found that she would have maybe a month or so befire the next lot cut through the gums where she was fine. I gave her some panadol and bonjela, but you can always try some teething toys that are kept in the fridge or try slicing some carrots, placing them in water and in the fridge so there cold.

Hope he feels better soon

I am sorry to tell you that they don't always stop after the first tooth comes in. Sometimes they have other teeth trying to come in, as well. I think my daughter teethed for a few months straight...counting time before and after her tooth came in. Tylenol helped my daughter out a lot. Take a wet rag and freeze it. Take it, after it's frozen, and rub his gums with it. Teething toys help some children, but didn't work much for mine, unless they were the cold pack ones. Good luck with his first tooth, and all the others to come.

Ive found alternative between ibuprophen and tylenol works wonders... call your pediatrician for dosages though. oragel will be your best friend along with teethers put in the fridge (a frozen one can be too hard and damage his gums). Depends on the baby when the symptoms will stop. My son has mild symptoms even when theyre shifting and no where close to erupting then when they get close the symptoms get worse. Hes working on his front top teeth now which have been the worst so far. good luck.

yes, as soon as the tooth comes through the symptoms/pain should go away. but then, it will probably happen with each tooth, as they all come through at different times. you never know though, the symptoms etc can be different with different babies and even with the same baby and different teeth. the best thing i found for my baby was a homeopathic product, called Hylands Teething relief. they are little tiny tablets that you put on baby's tongue and they dissolve instantly. natural and safe and they really work. i was a bit hesitant to use those gels etc that numb the pain, as apparently they can also numb the throat when baby swallows them, you have to be very careful with the dosage. good luck, i know it is a difficult time.

Having been through this with my 18 month old I'll say this. The symptoms will come and go until all the teeth are in. When the teeth are ready to pop through it's really uncomfortable for the poor babies which makes them drooly and fussy. When these teeth come through it will get better for a while until others decide to come down. Good luck.
