Both McAfee and Norton are only so-so these days.. Of the two, Norton probably has slight better protection, but is more of a resource hog and slows down your computer badly.

The best commercial antivirus program program available is either Kapersky or NOD32. I personally use AVG Free edition, which performs just as well as Norton or McAfee without bringing my system to a grinding halt... (plus, it's free!)

Get the latest version of Norton (2007). It offers excellent virus detection and removal, faster than previous versions and more importantly consumes less system memory. I heard that the latest McAfee still takes too much memory when running in the background.

Alternatively, you can get Trend Micro PC-Cilin which is as good as Norton.

The link below is the top ten anti virus software out. This is from PC World Magazine.

I have used both of those and did not care for them....Norton is not even in this top ten.

i would choose NOD32 or norton. mcafee is very very difficult to deal with and it's not compatible with many software. my friends who tried mcafee got more problems than protection. i would never try mcafee myself.

They are relatively the same. If you think about it, they both protect your computer from the same viruses. However, I would say that they are both very resource dependant. This means that they will slow down the performance of your computer. Another option is PC-Cillin. They sell this at best buy.
