Maybe your employer should do the same thing.
After all, you make many multiples of what a third worlder does, too.

Although the idea sounds benevolent, it wouldn't accomplish ending poverty in third world countries. First, even if every pro team including soccer, American football, baseball, etc gave their entire paychecks, it wouldn’t amount to a hill of beans in ending poverty. Second, who would you give the money to since there is so much corruption in most world relief organizations? Third, even if you gave the money to any one third world country, I think you would find that some tin horn dictator would take and use the money for a purpose other than the relief of ending poverty. In summary, a benevolent action of this nature would go amuck. That is just a couple of reasons why major league sports don't cut players' salaries for that purpose. Additionally, it would end major league sports as we know it. People can't compete for nothing. Besides, think of the tax dollars to help pay for 3rd World subsidies that is already generated from major league sports. Cutting out the sport wouldn't be the answer.
Although you may not like the salary's received, they make economic sense. Maybe 3rd World Countries should do more to promote a team of their own .

Major league sports is a competative industry. The wages they pay are an indication of how valuable the player is to the business. If they stopped paying rediculously high wages, the players would go work for someone who did.
People are paid based on the value they provide in return. The third world countries are not providing value to the baseball managers, therefore why should they get money.

Because the players earned it, the third world poor didn't do anything to earn it and if they did, they'd be playing in the major leagues. Darn 3rd world poor... they aren't working... they should be using all that free time practicing throwing a slider.
The problem doesn't lay with the people who make too much.. it's with the people who don't make enough. You don't just take from one person and give to another.
Those players earned that money because more people wanted to pay to watch those people work. It's not the player's fault that no one wanted to pay to watch a fireman or police officer go to work. If you don't like how much players make, don't watch them.

The same reason you don't cut your own salary and give money to third world countries.
Greed.

Why should they give the money they are earning HERE and paying taxes on HERE to third world countries?? I say we need to take care of our own first and that they should be required to donate 10% of their incomes to the teachers, fire and police persons in their community, or donate it to the charities that support needy children HERE. We need more Warrick Dunns and others like him.

I have to agree with vexation...but I have to add a few more...politicians, actors, CEO's, doctors, lawyers...have I named enough???Oh and jdlifsey2030...its not like a sports player is putting his life on the line...some athletes do die accidently in sports, but there are MORE important people out there WHO DO DESERVE that kind of money...POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS...lets see how quickly you agree after you're held hostage or trapped in a burning building. I don't see how a sports player, who only runs and sweats for 3-4 hours a night, ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK' deserves millions while police and firefighters die while on duty EVERYDAY!!!
