It's interesting to read your questions because, there are Indian parents in North America who are regretting raising their children overseas. They say that their children have become more callous, materialistic, less spiritual, and less ambitious.
However, in India - as with many Asian cultures - education is the ultimate form of wealth; it can't be taken away by anyone other than The Maker. This is why children are pushed hard to get high marks at school; this is also a way of helping them gain better opps later on in life.
As for punishment: children have a greater fear or respect for their parents in those cultures. They are taught to respect and cherish family relatives. Sometimes, this means being punished when verbal warnings run out.
Becoming God-fearing and religious traditions are a major part of raising children in India. This also instills a greater capacity in many children to feel remorse when they do something wrong and to fear the consequences of misdeeds.
Children also have less time to watch TV in India because of their demanding school scheds. They are also less in a position to demand fancy gadgets or clothing, because most of them wear school uniforms, Mon to Fri.
What most Indian parents want - ideally - is for their children to be able to support themselves, to be healthy, to have a family of their own, and to be safe. They would also like it if their children continue to look them up or care for them when they become elderly.
However, times are also changing in India....

I'm sure not all Indians are perfect like the ones you know, but no group of people is perfect. Generally though, they are smart and disciplined, and so are many people from the countries that surround India. You're comparing American children to them, and generally American children are spoiled and take education for granted. Their parents push them to be the best and expect no less, and that is what makes them so special.

Its all about discipline. That includes spanking, threatening to lock the child up in the bathroom, rubber slipper in hand, pulling ears etc. Nothing that hurts for more than a few hours though.
Most Indian children are as paranoid about their future as some Americans about "safety", because they're taught to think that way.

It's the culture and up bringing. it's not the same in every family but they are taught from early age to follow certain things, such as no talking back, respect for elders, being good listener, even food...it takes a little effort and strict parents (who also knows how to have fun), spoiling is a no no.... at least in the families that i know... and more than anything else it takes a great example... my parents never give advise on good and bad of life but they live their lives in such ways that i don't need them to tell me... they set perfect examples of what i ought to be doing and i watch and learn from them.... i like that more than those long lectures as it shows that it's possible to live by rules and guidelines...
so yep it takes an example (from parents) to teach kids...
at least in my family...
hope this helps..!!

No, probable they do no longer because of the fact area of being infantile is being egocentric. I even have observed this too, and it disturbs me. it variety of feels that we've continued with the "Me technology" of the 80s and delivered it to the severe. employing is a good place to perceive it, as is paying for (like the day after Thanksgiving in the U. S.... militant paying for). people merely do no longer think of of others, purely what they themselves want or want and not the way it impacts every physique around them.
