I have seen heaters in garages that were hung from the ceiling so as to take up less space ,and be in a safe spot out of the way, and not near any sources of water. I am sure you could find something like that online. check out the link below

You can install a Reznor Hanging Heater in your garage. It is ran off of Lp or Natural Gas and has a flue that goes threw the roof of your garage. You can control it with a thermostat and keep the temperature as warm as you like it. Also there are LP or Natural gas vent less wall heaters. These are hung on a wall and have a catalytic burner in them. As the gas burns the excess fumes are burnt with the catalitic burner. There is supposed to be very little exhaust that remains in the air. Check your local Heating contractors for the hanging heater and check you local gas company for the ventless heaters. Both systems should be installed by a professional for the safest results. Good luck!

Electrical baseboard heating is safe but costly. You could try to run a duct from another heating duct close to your garage. I would reccommend buying a baseboard heater as it is safe and easy to install, just don't look at your hydro bill at the end of the month. More importantly, you should spend money on insulating your walls of the garage to ensure any heat that you do have insn't lost quickly

How much heat do you need? If you just need to keep something from freezing, you might just be able to leave the lights on.
I had problems with the waterline to the icemaker in the garage freezing. Now during the cold weather I have a 100 W bulb shining on that area. (Any light which doesn't escape out a window will bounce around in the room until it turns into heat.) It works for me.

you could put space heaters in there, or connect your furnace to the garage and put a vent in it. But it will have to have good insulation.
