Some problems with units, unless this is a trick question...

8 square yards = 72 square feet (3x3x8)
4/12 x 72 = 24 cubic feet

Otherwise 8 square yards is 72 square feet regardless how deep...

However,
8 cubic yards of concrete x 4 inches deep is another story.
8 cubic yards = 8x3x3x3 cubic feet = 216 cubic feet
216 x 12 / 4 = 648 square feet coverage

Wow- lots people here taking a SWAG; 75% errors.

At 4" you will cover 81 square feet per yard. 8 yards x 81 = 648 square feet.

That assumes you use it all. If you want to provide for some splash and loss, you would add a 1/4 yard or so for the same area.

maybe this will help better, I do a fair amount of concrete work "on the side" (other than my reg job) Instead of figureing how much the concrete will cover, try it this way there are 2 ways to do it... One the hard way, 1 yard of concrete will cover 80 Sq Ft. ie: 8'x10'x 4"

OR do it this way........
L X W X D x .0033.....length times width times depth time .0033

this will give you a very close figure of how much comcrete you need.
Ex..8x10x4 =320 x.0033 =1.056

hope this helped
