I got interviewed over the phone by HR for a big company on Dec. 12. I want to write a thank you letter as well as ask if they have spoken with the director about my resume and see if I will be getting an onsite interview. I want to write this so that they dont feel I'm asking them whether im selected or not...so I want it to be a subtle question within the thank you letter. Please give me your suggestions or letters you may have written. Thank you.

I recommend you say thank you for the opportunity to interview, and you really enjoyed the chance to speak to them over the phone. The most subtle way I know to ask the question regarding selection is to ask something along the lines of "I am interested to know the timeline of your decision process." They may respond with we will be conducting on-site interviews on such and such dates, or they may send a letter stating thanks but no thanks. Good luck. In the future, I would send a letter like this within 24-72 hours after the interview, even with the intervening holidays.

I work in HR and there is nothing wrong with asking for the job this puts you in the catagory of motivated. I would say something to the effect of: thank you for your time today on the phone,I feel we had a very successful phone interview and am looking forward to the next step of your hiring process. Ican be reached at (xxx) your number here) so we can set up the onsite interview.

Dec.12? That's a long time ago. I would have sent it out immediately. But anyway it's ok, just write something along the lines of thank you for taking the time to interview me. I learned a lot about the company and I know I can do a great job. I look forward to hearing from you.

good luck

Freddie has the right idea, put something like "Thank you for selecting me for your interview process, I anticipate your response."
