They don't teach it right anymore. They try to use innovative methods to help kids to understand it better. Unfortunately, it backfires, because parents are absolutely useless to assist.
In the seven years between my brother and I, the teachign methods have changed so much that I can't even understand what he is actually supposed to do.

My kids lost me in the math dept. early.
I like the comic who asked his daughter when they started adding letters. Don't we have enough numbers?

Naw. Don't be too hard on yourself. We were all there once...trying to ask our parents for help and yet they were not able to. I just hope I retain all that information for my kids. : )
