Bunnies bonk a lot = fertility
Eggs = new borns
Both associates with sex, both fertility, both a spring festival as thats what spring is about... And pagans were into nature and season cycles so it was winters over party.
The word easter is not from christianity but a saxon pagan fertilty goddess whos day was in spring who had a name just like easter

Eggs and the Easter Bunny are two independent symbols of Easter. The eggs are a sign of rebirth. The Bunny was originally a Hare and around Easter is the time that hares come out into the fields and act crazy, dancing around and boxing. You may have heard of the phrase "mad as a March Hare". So hares became associated with Easter because it happens during the time of the hares.
Somehow, the bunny got associated with the eggs in America. In Europe we don't have the bunny, although we have the eggs.

the rabbit was a favored symbol of a goddess of fertility, Ester, that was worshipped before christianity. pagan holidays are sometimes kept, to make newcomers to the religion (back in the day) comfortable - easter is a holiday that actually celebrates that spring is here and crops can grow again
as well, the rabbit reproduces quickly, and seemed an endless source of life - they just keep on coming.
also, the egg represents fertility and birth.
-------
many times in the past i have told the following story to people that i know, when they ask me, "jim, why are there rabbits and eggs at easter?"
i explained to them how important a food source the egg is. i mean really, a chicken can lay so many eggs without having a male there, and they're not going to end up ...being anything. so many can be made in such a short time..
well, when god took away jesus, and let the romans take his life to show the world how much christ would give, people got scared. what if god took away their favorite food source?
well! people started running through the streets yelling "Hide the f-cking eggs! Hide the f-cking eggs!" and since they didn't know where to hide the eggs from the christian god, they figured that since rabbits don't lay eggs, the eggs could be hidden under the rabbits
well! the rabbits didn't really know what to do with the eggs. i mean, they can't really sit on them properly or anything. and they don't have refridgeration to keep the eggs from spoiling. so the rabbits would play mean tricks on helpless children by leaving eggs in hidden places in the house.
this leads to the origin of the easter egg hunt, where people were frantic to find the eggs before they spoiled, so that their yards and houses didn't stink up the neighborhood

It's a well known fact that Easter Bunny Ovum are extremely large and situated on the outside of the lady Bunny's body in a sort of marsupial pouch under the little Bunny's arm pits. It's a cruel fact that these ovum somewhat compare to chocolate eggs and are hunted by small children with the encouragement of distracted parents after to much wine.

It was at my first Passover Seder, some 12 years ago, that I noticed that they had roasted eggs on the table service, along with other Passover elements (charoset, horseradish, matzo, parsley). Passover (as Easter) comes in the spring, because G-d so orchestrated the plagues of Egypt so that Passover would fall during the spring of each year. The egg is a sign of new life, just as the Passover gave new life to the Jews and Jesus, in His death, burial and Resurrection, gives new life to us.

the eggs are symbolic of the stone that covered jesus' tomb, thats why we roll them down hills to symbolise the opening of the tomb and the resurrection of Christ...dunno how the easter bunny got in on the act though...?
