Every one that has answered this question is wrong. Time is not an object. So you can not "see" it "feel" it or "hear" it. Time is nothing more than a measurement. Time technically does not exist. The so called space-time continuum is bogus. You have a space continuum only. For instance lets take tommorrow. You can say that well I am going to go to the mall tommorrow and do some shopping. Well guess what that statement is false. For tommorrow does not technicaly exist. We rely on clocks. Take all clocks away and then you would have to rely only on your own biological clock. Now that is the closest you can come to actual existence of "time". For this reason time travel will never be possible. We have taken space and put a measure to it for our own limited understanding and invented the calander and the clock and time zones all do to the movement of the sun. If time was a standard then the passing of a year here on earth and any other planet in our system would be the same. But it is not. We can formulate the laws of physics for space up to the event horrizon of a black hole but beyond, all laws of physics are broken down and can be tossed out the window. Hyperspace has nothing to do with time it is altering the way space works and physicaly bending it or traveling "through" it like walking from one room to another through the doorway. Instant travel. But we do not have the ability to make wormholes. Little only send a space probe to the closest black hole canadate in Cygnus called Cygnus x-1 So called time dialation in measurment only does happen but all that Star Trek warp drive systems, tachyeon field generators physics stuff is fine for fun but when you get into the real world it does not work like that.

To make time completely stop relative to yourself (not to observers) -- according to today's theories, you'd need to first accelerate yourself by an infinite amount of energy to reach the speed of light. So no -- time can not stop because of this, at least according to our current model of physics.
Most scientists agree that time do "exist" however, and is seemingly not an invention by man. It plays a fundamental role in spacetime physics and gravity plays a major role in bending time. However, there are a number of philosophers that has in the past speculated that time is actually an illusion. This would break apart many of today's scientific theories though. Current theories use to speak of time as an as natural property as "mass" or "size".

No, time cannot stop, it can only slow. Time slows down as you approach the speed of light. This is shown by the use of what is known as a "light clock." This device uses two small mirrors mounted on a bracket facing one another, with a single photon of light bouncing back and forth between them. Commonly, the mirrors are about six inches apart, and that proton bounces between them which measures the "ticks" of the light clock. The photon can complete one tick in one billionth of a second if it is stationary. However, when it is moving at a constant velocity, the photon must travel at an angle to stay inside the boundaries of the mirrors, if it doesn't it will fly into space. Because of this angle, it takes longer than one billionth of a second to travel between the two mirrors, and therefore, longer to make the "tick" showing that the time, in fact, slowed down.

Jonas, you're partially right, but it's WITH RESPECT TO OUTSIDE OBSERVERS. Einstein's theory was based on the idea that physics holds true in any non-inertial reference frame. An observer would see your clock on your ship come to a standstill. For you time would move along normally. Everything outside the ship would be a different story.
Good point about the infinite energy.
Also to an earlier poster, the speed of light is 186,282 miles per SECOND. You're not even remotely in the ballpark.

According to and as proven(up to a certain point by modern scientists) by Einstein's theory of relativity, yes you can slow down as well as stop time. Just one small catch: You would have to be moving faster than about(give or take a few hundred miles per hour) ninety thousand miles an hour. Beyond the speed of light so as to break through the quantum barrier and to be able to freely travel a linear time/space continuum in a non-linear way. In theory, you would be able to reach a state in which by yourself, you could concievabley grow younger as well as without anyone being able to see you moving, making sounds or feeling you, change events and/or objects to change their outcomes or even positions or to make things or events to have never happened. However, You'd need to have a LOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGG conversation with Steven Hawkings to understand this better than What I've written here!!!

Sure... Dont believe in it. If you dont believe in it - it will not exist. Put it to you this way. You must ... unlearn what you have learned. For example. there are things that do not exist because ... we havnt made them a reality. Aliens exist ... if you choose to believe they exist.
Tell ya what... dont do anything. Do nothing for the next 10 days. time will stand still. however... its by the rest of society that will eventually make it as if time has passed. Thus thier action of doing things to pass time... asking you where you have been, gathering results in thier own pursuites, thus accomplishing things due to time. If you accomplish nothing... and choose not to believe in time... and have no outside influence. Yes... for you and you alone.... time will stand still. You must be placed somewhere in solitude from outside influence. Also... you maynot stay there for long due to the fact that the aging process will then remind you of the fact that time has passed. It is possible. Its just that you have to set yourself up for the right environment. Other than that..... I GOT NOTHIN. :) happy travels

i've got been informed approximately 10000 situations that i'm not a real Christian (TM) simply by fact my ideals do not fall in with the extremist party line. I proportion a number of your perspectives. I carry citizenship in an earthly united states of america (the U. S.). there are various paths to God. I take part in the two Christian and non-Christian rites. i'm not worried of non-Christian impacts. I refuse to apply my faith as an excuse for bigotry and hatred. besides, congratulations for not attempting to shove the Divine right into a one-length-suits-all field.

You can't stop time, silly goose. That would require supernatural powers, which you don't have. God created time and only He has the power to stop it. Instead, buying yourself a day planner from Staples can help you save time.
