Why is focusing such a big part in outlining using single spoke or sub-header to prepare for outlining?

Think of writing as taking a picture with a camera. If you don't focus, you will still get SOMETHING, but it won't make much sense. Basically: No focus, no picture. Yes, there are ways around this, just as there are ways you can take an unfocused picture with a camera and make it look good and even great! But, to do that, you need to focus first. I know -- it is contradictory. But dat da way yo cookie crumble, ja no?
