It won't melt, but it can be cooked. Tastes a bit salty and get's downright crunchy.
It's not much more than flour, water, salt and coloring. It's not intended to be eaten, but it's harmless. The whole idea was that it wouldn't hurt kids if they ate it. I ate quite a bit of it as a kid as has just about every kid whoever played with the stuff.
If you REALLY want to get an education on the stuff, poke around some of the "alt" newsgroups. Look for alt.playdoh or alt.sex.playdoh. There are some FREAKY folks out there but as perversity goes it's pretty darn harmless.
