I truly find all things I read half truths, and certainly I do not believe anything I hear without research. I will research this. Peculiar isn't though since he really launched the Republican Party for the poor and working class. He successfully did many good things to help the common man/woman, and gave his life to see it through. Go to www.history.com and see what you find there in books, audio/visuals as well.

I'm not sure where you get the "it was through revenge" part - the things I have read don't portray things that way, but yes, I was aware of his depression. There was an interesting show (I think) on the History Channel recently, that focused on "Lincoln's Melancholy".

I thought "With Malice Toward None" by Stephen Oates was a good book.

I haven't read any good book about him recently. If you think he was an interesting person and you want to know more about him, there's a museum in Springfield, Illinois that's really cool. It's the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. I went there this summer. It was awesome!

Yes, Abe had many problems. He was incredibly neurotic and had OCD and he and his wife had some very public, violent arguments. If he ran today his ability to govern would be shredded in the media due to his personal problems.

One thing generally not known about him was that he was a member of the planter class through marriage. His wife's family owned a plantation in Maryland with one hundred and twenty four slaves on it.
