Usually they ask for a deposit because they are holding that time for you and that means that they are turning other customers away for that time slot. If you cancel at the last minute, they have lost other potential business - - in this type of business, empty time slots are lost (unrecoverable) revenue.

You need to ask this company if the deposit is refunded or applied to the ending balance. The deposit may also be held against damage or undue trashing of the limo.

It's to defer their cost if you and your friends trash the limo. If your friend gets wasted and pukes all over the place, the deposit goes to cleaning that up. If you're nice and neat though, and don't trash the ride, you usually get that deposit back though.
