I personally do not like watching amateurs playing sports unless its the olympics. Should I just asume it is all alumni rooting for their teams? If that is the case I get it, otherwise I am lost.

You got one of the reasons...the other would be that some people are just brought up liking a certain team. There are also the bandwagon folks and the idiots like Vonhugenstein.

Becareful setting double-standards....I'm certain there's things that you're fascinated with that we could give a Rat's Ä$$ about.

You are not alone, I will watch a game from time to time if I have the time, usually when it's a match up between high ranked teams, but I prefer the NFL>college ball by far.

I do not care whether they get paid or not because most prima-donnas in the NFL were that way in college (or almost as bad). They maybe worsen (in behavior) because they know more people are watching now --- they had it in them all along.

It may sound bad, but after watching professional football, I feel like college is a down-grade in the quality (due to skill of players). College may have "exciting" plays, but to me it's just that it's 1 guy who's NFL material vs. a bunch of guys who stand no chance of playing in the NFL. Huge mis-matches are rarely fun. Also, you see things like defenses being tricked VERY easily (as is seems more and more talent is on the offensive side of the ball). It makes you want to smack you head, "how could they fall for that?!" etc.

like the commercial "amateurs work till they get it right, professionals work until they can't get it wrong"

A lot of areas that dont have an NFL team root for the local college team, especially in the Midwest and South (Nebraska, Arkansas, Iowa) as well as LA (USC)

17 of the 32 teams in the NFL play in a state that has another NFL team, so that leaves a lot of other states wanting for local gridiron action

You know. It used to be that it was a purer sport. There wasn't any payment involved, and a whole ton of the guys who were playing would never ever get to go to the NFL. Now...

Now... yeah, they may not get a salary, but they get paid just the same, and it's turned into the AAA of the NFL. It's a farce, and personally, now I only watch it because the NFL games are only on twice a week.

it is athletes who are not getting paid to play

I am so w/you on this one. I live in Oklahoma and nobody, I mean nobody here likes NFL, you hear crap like it's not football their getting paid. Well isn't that what the college boys are wanting to do when they grow up? Another reason people like college is because we don't have an NFL team
