A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting), and are part of a wider network of social media.
The term "blog" is derived from "Web log." "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

A blog is a website run by one person or a few people where they post stories periodically, and the website displays the stories in order, usually with the most recent one first.
There are some very popular blogs that cover news, politics, movies and TV, technology, etc. There are also tons of other blogs that are mostly just about what the person is currently thinking -- even these can be popular if the person is well-known.

It is an online journal that anyone can read. The owner of the blog usually posts daily. It can be about one topic or just the ramblings of the owner. In the olden days it would have been called a diary. http://www.blogger.com is a good place to start blogging.
