It means the situations you're watching are not like real life at all, but sometimes they bring about realizations about peoples behaviour that can be applied to real life.

Sounds like media studies homework to me- weren't you listening in class? I suppose it means that the dramas are not realistically shot, scripted, lit, and so on, but that they do have something important to reflect on life. You would never think you were watching real life, but that is a deliberate way of ensuring the message gets across. Or something, or nothing, whatever, shut up.
