If you are talking about pregnancy you are protected within the first 24 hours. If you want to know how long before your body adjust it can take a full year. Good Luck.

It depends on the type of IUD. The copper T works as soon as it is put in. The hormone one, I'm not sure how fast that works. I had the copper T for 10 years. It works by inflaming the uterine lining so the egg can not implant.
