Can someone please explain to me how to write slope-intercept form of an equasion of the line that passes through a given point and is paralell to the graph of each equation?

Here is my question- (-2,5), y=-4x+2

Please help

You can put the equation into point slope form first:

y - y1 = m (x - x1)

m=slope= -4 , y1=5, x1= -2. Plug these into the equation:

y - 5 = -4 (x - - 2)

Two negatives make a positive so the equation can be rewritten as:

y - 5 = -4 (x+2) simplify the right side y-5= -4x - 8

To put it in slope intercept form (y=mx+b), you move the -5 to the other side by adding 5 to each side, the answer is

Y = -4x - 3, it is paralell to the origional equation because they have the same slope.

y=mx+b is the slope-intercept formation, and m is the slope and b is the y intercept

since they have to be paralell you know that they two equations have to have the same slope
so then you have y=-4x+b

substitute in the y and x values
5=-2(-4) +b

and then solve for b

the equation will be y=-4x+ [whatever b turns out to be]

I'm too lazy to figure it out right now

so it passes through the point -2 and 5
go 2 that point on a graph
then plug in the slope
so go up 4 and over 1, and it passes through the point 2.

2 make a line parraell, u just change the 2 to any #

y=-4x+b
5=(-4)(-2) +b
5=8+b
-3 = b

thus y= -4x-3
