Even though I suffered through two hospital births i think it is the WORST place to have a baby! Pregnancy and birth should not be medicalized unless there is a problem. Often being in the hospital creates more problems. Cascading interventions rarely happen at home, nor do convenience cesareans.

No you do not. You could have a homebirth assisted by a trained midwife. You could also chose to have your child in a birthing center, which is a more natural home-like setting. Also, a lot of hospitals now days are turning their labor and delivery rooms into birthing "suites", making them more like a birthing center. That is the option that my husband and I are taking. We have the setting of a more home-like environment, but still havethe hospital medical staff right there in case of an emergency. Check around at your local hospitals and see what type of maternity care they offer. If you are unsatisfied, then try looking into a birth center or having your baby in your own home with the care of a midwife.

No. Find out what other options you have in your area. There may be a freestanding birth center (kind of like a bed and breakfast type place) that isn't attached to a hospital and is staffed by midwives. Or homebirth may be an option for you.
I had one in a hospital, one in a birth center and one at home. The homebirth was by far the best.

No. If you have complications, then it would take that much longer to get to a hospital. If the baby has complications, you may never know, and wind up with a stillborn. I would recommend going to a hospital, that way they could monitorn you and the baby before it's delivered. Best of luck to you, and your baby.

I would say a hospital would be ideal because if something were to go wrong i doubt your husband has the required medical equipment or knowhow to deal.
Check with your obgyn often. if you get a checkup right before you give birth and he says its ok to have it at home then... do it at home.

no, but why not? That way if something does go wrong you've got people that can help you. My sister-in-law had my nephew at home, but we weren't too happy about that. If you insist in having the child at home atleast find a mid-wife who will help deliver the baby (a nurse trained in this area).

If you don't want to why should you? Try researching mid-wives, and ask you OB-GYN what they think too.
