I love DK Eyewintess guides. Best visuals, 3d walking path maps great reccomendations.
I love the DK top 10 for pocket guides to an individual city to carry along in a pocket and the big books to study at home or in the room.

I think Rick Steves is the best. He's been doing this for 20 years and seeks to bring people the info. they need to connect with the locals and get off the beaten path so you can experience the real Europe, not the commercialized one.
