Sometimes you do and sometimes you don't.
1) Sometimes it expels itself,
2) the Dr. can pull on the remaining cord (gently) and it comes out,
3) they can press on your stomach and it will come out
4) you have to push it out
I would choose to push it out because you push out a lot of blood and this can decrease your recovery bleeding.

Yes, but it usually only takes one or two pushes and it doesn't hurt because the placenta has no bones and is soft.

Your doctor SHOULD NOT pull on your cord or try to force the placenta out. This can cause the placenta to come apart and you could have some retained fragments.

My first kid I pushed it out no problems. The second the doctor just tried ripping it out and the placenta tore. (Different doctors.) Since I had no pain meds I had to endure the extreme pain of him searching my uterus for "sponges", left over peices of placenta. Tell your doctor not to pull, just push it out and everything will be fine. Pushing it out doesn't hurt a bit, it's nothing compared to the baby.

Yes, Right after the baby is born, your doctor, will then push the placenta out. Its uncomfortable, but you will be to busy looking at your new baby to care. Plus, it doesnt take 2 minutes to get it out. There shouldnt be any need for you to have to push it out though...your doctor will take care of that for you.

You don't really push, in most cases. After my daughter was born, the doctor was working at it, and I asked, "Do I need to push?" He said, "No, I have a good hold on it; it will slip right out." And, like the others said, I didn't even know it was happening, so don't worry about it.

Maybe just one short push...you won't even notice that it is coming out.
