Because the mind is a good servant but a bad master.
If we allow our minds to rule our lives then we're in for a nasty trip. Our mind is sneaky and before we know it we pay overdue attention to what others think and do and let our lives be ruled by impossible expectations, dislikes, negativity. There comes a time when we are unable to enjoy the beauty of nature or the simple pleasures in life. Look at any teenaged girl and you'll see their lives ruined by the images they see in magazines.
What should be the most carefree time of their lives is filled with obsession and paranoia.

They have not learned better. It takes some time and lots of people to tell sometimes that you need to let the small stuff go and get on with being happy. All the little things can drag you down and make you miserable. Get on with feeling good and being happy. It goes along with the only one that can cause you stress is yourself. And that if you let someone make you angry you let them control you. If you get to understand these things and other about human nature you will go far.

Those who share my personality type (the habitual list makers), obsess over details because cannot rest until we feel like we have control of a situation. So I guess it could be a control issue.

i think I've said this before--but here goes:
People obsess over little things because they have no patience with anything anymore. its always hurry up and do this and hurry up and get there.
Why do you want to hurry up and get there when you end up having to wait?
why sit there at the light and blow your horn because someone else didn't jump down on the gas soon enough to suit them.
people need to exercise more patience and understanding with people in our society today.

Not everyone does and when people do, it's just character traits. Everyone has little obsessions and I suppose that could fit into that category.

The little things are just little steps to bigger problems. If you take care of the little things the big ones arn't going to be as big as they could have been.

It's the little things in life we can't control, everything else we manage to find an answer for.

For some people it is a real illness but I think you mean your friends. Everyone centers on what is important to them, not always the same thing as what is important to you.

Maybe its a control thing? People like to be in control...and if their life is out of control, they control what they can....the little things. Just a theory...
