It is not illegal because that person purchused the cd and has the right to share it with who ever they please.

Yes, it is illegal. When your friend bought the CD, they were really buy the copyright license to the music. They may have the song on their computer, their Ipod, the CD, or even on a mixed cassette.

But you didn't buy it and your friend isn't allowed to give you the license. Or share it.

This is why Napster was shut down. People were sharing their music with others and violating the copyright.

Will you ever be caught? Nope.

Yes, it is illegal. The person who bought the CDs can legally make one copy for themselves as a spare, but they are prohibited from either selling or distributing the music. When YOU copy them you are in essence receiving stolen goods which carries the same penalty as if you stole it outright.
While probably nobody will know that you are a thief if you do it, you will know.

No as long as she did not get the CD's illegaly... There is no way of knowing that you used her CD's.
