My advice is to get hold of the Writers' and Yearbook: it will answer all your questions and give you lists of useful contacts and resources. If you don't want to buy it it will be available at your local library. Good luck!

I've used both (not at the same time of course). You could try it 3rd. person - then you can really get inside the characters and it's quite easy to change it to 1st. person if you think that angle would work better. People always look for human interest so relationships are important. I have found that some stories seem to evolve as you write them and the end product can very different from the first idea. The biggest part of writing is the rewrites.
When you are happy with the result it's a good idea to get a copy of The Writers Handbook which lists the publishing houses and tells you what genre etc. each is looking for. it's also a good idea to get someone whom you consider to have a valid opinion to read it through and give you their thoughts.
Good luck.

Personally I think it is best to write a story in the first person, it sounds more interesting that way. Then think of some interesting conflicts that you can add to the story, and then just get writing. After you finish you don't have to do anything, but if you want to get your book published, then you can start looking for some publishing companies.

Good luck!

I think that if you are going to write a book, you should just start writing. Don't worry about the form and technique at first, just get the material down. You can always go back and revise it afterwards.

Once you are done writing, I think that you should find some one to edit your book. After that you should find a publisher.

For tips in writing, I think that you should just write whatever comes to mind at first, remember you can always go back and revise it. Also, if you get what they call "writers block" I suggest that you go and get a change of scenery and some fresh air, sometimes taking a walk through town will get your creative juices flowing again.

Good for you for attempting to write a book. I wish you the best of luck and I pray writer's block passes you over.

Both perspectives have their advantages but you will have more limitations with first person because you can only explore the mind of one character, in third person you can know everyone's mind and their thoughts.

Some people have trouble writing in third person because they tend to "fly" through the story. It seems to be good as you are typing but when you read it again it may seem thin and washed out. It depends on the person who is writing.

I prefer to write in third person because I like the freedom of it. With some of my short stories I have written the same story from both perspectives to see which worked best, you may want to try that for some of your book.

The only other advice I can give you is to remember that people have five senses so use as many words and descriptions in your book to trigger those "senory memories" as you can. The best books and stories allow the reader to identify with the characters, feelings, and settings in the story.

Also, do not be afraid to "kill" your own work. Your writing will be very dear to you but you may find after writing 123 pages that you do not need the first 122 of those. Sometimes we need to write them down to get to where we need to go but you must remember that while they may have been necessary for you they might hinder the story.

After you write the book there are different options for you. Many publishing companies only accept manuscripts from agents so you may have to hire yourself one. There are a few publishers who will read your manuscript and you should send it to them in the manner they will desribe to you. The third option is to self-publish and hope you attract the attention of a publisher. Many people have had success this way.

Good luck to you!!!

It's up to you.

Think of what target audience you want to capture - what age, gender, what interests will they have?

Once you can answer these questions and others similar, you will know whether it should be in 1st or 3rd person........

Do you want to be different? - If so, you MAY not capture a mainstream audience........
It's your form of expression so do not let people dictate what and how to write. To an extent, it's up to you - what drives you? What are you passionate about? Do you have particular beliefs/values to share in your book?

Yes, be slightly different........you want to capture the readers interest and keep them in suspense and intrigued at the start of your book..............write some and ask yourself if YOU would want to read on................

Suspense, sub-plot and twists with a particular take on issues within society today will make your book happen and alive...........

good luck

When i write its always in 1st person becouse i write from my own point of view. Right now in high school, i only let my friends read the chapters i give them, so its like episodes, they are always asking when I'm done with the next. I take my stories form my own dreams, and make it tons more elaborate. i really think that you should know your characters inside and out, like know their fav. color, polical views, who they really are, and a huge way to test your knowledge is put your character in a corner, have a special way each character would act in that monent of crisis that fits your already dicription. Good luck!

First tip: start writing.
Second tip: Keep writing

Let you natural inclination determine whether you use 1st or 3rd person. However your writing flows go with it.

Just try things till you get it the way you like! I've heard that published authors often have POV trouble- just try it and if you don't like how it's working out then change it!
