I am on the verge of telling my family and friends that I am a cross dresser and want to incorporate this in my everyday life. Therefore I want to be able to look my best when I start to go out in public.

I have played with makeup etc but can never quite get it right so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in giving me a hand or even just pointers. If not maybe you could recommend someone in my area?

I live in Canberra, Australia and and willing to travel if need be. All the help I get will be greatly appreciated.

Assuming this is not a prank question, you should really go to a gay-friendly make-up counter. I am not saying you are gay, because I understand that some cross-dressers are not. However, maybe casually asking a young, hip-looking department store make-up artist if they ever get guys in for consultations. IF she sees open to this discussion, you could let her know about your situation. If she says, "Ewwwww" or something,t hen you would not have revealed yourself.

Good luck with this new chapter of your life.

Well, if we lived in the same country or even in the same town, I would come over and help you, but if your wearing base, get a color close to your skin tone, apply it evenly and not very much, put power over it, with a powder brush, again not very much of it. I don't wear eyeliner because it would make me look like a raccoon, I want too but don't have the eyes for it. Now, I have blond hair so I use light colors, like glimmery white and a light brown, if you have dark hair color I would use a darker brown, put the mascara on and Your done, except for the lipstick, I wear red, cause I like to look like an evil b*itch blood sucker, but what ever floats your boat, put your base on your lips then apply the lipstick evenly, bloat with a toilet paper then put powder over it so it doesn't run or smugge off. You can wear blush I don't though. Just put some on a bluch brush and go over your cheek bones, in a horozional way. Don't use to much of it, or you will look like a whore. My face is way to ivory for blush, so I don't wear it. but you can.
