I'm really having a hard time getting motivated to go back to school and get my Design Degree. I have an opportunity to become a Designer at my firm in a couple years (which gives me plenty of time to get my associates), however I just can't seem to pick up the phone to make that first call! I would love to be a designer (the $$ that comes along with it isn't so bad either...), but ....I'm lacking such dedication and motivation! I need some advice on how I can become motivated enough to at least take one class and see how I like it!! If all else fails, at least I tried, right?! Help!

Motivation is one of those funny things - it probably won't appear on its own. You already know logically why it would be good for you to go back to school. Maybe you need to enlist a good friend or family member to help give you some external motivation - it's easy to break a promise to yourself, but usually it's much harder to break a promise to a friend.

I'm not a shrink, just a commercial real estate guy, but it seems that finding self motivation is an incremental thing. Having pride in accomplishments comes in all forms and having pride in your profession is no different than having pride in many small things that you can do. Try for 2 or 3 days to find small tasks that don't burden you-- like cleaning & organizing a desk drawer or re-arrangeing a clothes closet or putting a box of emergency supplies in your car trunk. Then take the time to appreciate what you have just accomplished. Revel in it and take stock of how you feel. You'll undoubtedly begin to feel like you may want to take a single class--just for the hell of it. Enjoy!

Well, for me, it is mostly about being able to settle down to start a family. I am not going to have kids until I am financially secure and secure in my job. The faster, I graduate, the faster I can do that. I didn't go right out of high school...by the time I graduate, 7 years will have passed since high school graduation. I knew I needed to stop fooling around and get 'er done.
