Turkey wasn't actually discovered; it was part of the Ottoman Empire until the end of World War I. As for the land itself, it goes back to ancient times insofar as people inhabiting the land.

If you mean the country, it was inhabited since early prehistoric times

If you mean the bird, I guess it would have been the most ancient ancestors of the American Native.
